YouTube Limits Mobile Live Streaming to Channels over 1k Subscribers

In the last 24 hours or so, creators on Youtube have reported that their ability to stream to Youtube via the Youtube app on iOS and Android have been blocked. A message has been coming up informing the creator that they now require 1000 subscribers to live stream via mobile.

Interestingly, this is only for mobile live streaming via the Youtube app, and users are free to live stream on desktop using the new webcam feature or the various live streaming encoder software on the market.

It is interesting that no reason has been given for the change, leading to creators to speculate things such as a money saving measure or even to limit the live streaming of violent events in the wake of the Christchurch Massacre.

In this video, I’m presenting the information that we have at hand as of Friday 5th April. We hope that Youtube become forthcoming with more information regarding this change.

My video outlining the details we know right now and some speculation as to what it all means.

Also, I teamed with Dee Nimmin to tag-team on this. Dee provides some testing and offers alternatives for mobile users to continue live streaming on Youtube whilst still under 1000 subscribers.
